GRECO positively assessed Armenia's achievements in the field of corruption prevention among judges, parliament members and prosecutors

27/03/2023

GRECO has conducted a regular assessment of corruption prevention among judges, parliament members and prosecutors in Armenia (Armenia has been undergoing this assessment since 2015).

Since 2019, due to the low level of implementation of GRECO's recommendations, Armenia's performance was assessed as "generally unsatisfactory" (11 of the 18 recommendations submitted had remained unfulfilled).

As a result of large-scale anti-corruption and judicial reforms implemented in 2022, as well as additional discussions of the permanent delegation of Armenia during the 93rd GRECO plenary session held in Strasbourg from March 20 to 24 of this year, two more recommendations were assessed as fulfilled. As a result, Armenia has finally exited the non-compliance process of the GRECO assessment, no longer being considered a "generally unsatisfactory" performing country.

The Ministry of Justice of Armenia will be consistent in the matter of the continuation of the fight against corruption, seeking to ensure the full implementation of GRECO's recommendations.

It should be noted that GRECO is an organ created for monitoring the anti-corruption standards of CoE member states, which has been operating since 1999. The Republic of Armenia has been GRECO member since 2004 and is regularly evaluated in the context of the implementation of GRECO's recommendations.
