Deputy Minister of Justice Yeranuhi Tumanyants presents progress made in anti-corruption field in Armenia

Deputy Minister of Justice Yeranuhi Tumanyants remotely participated in and delivered a speech at the meeting of the working group of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) held for the purpose of discussing the results of implementation of the Political Declaration of the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the activities that have been carried out for the prevention of and fight against corruption over the past four years alongside the process aimed at strengthening democracy in Armenia, which activities fully comply with the goals defined under the Political Declaration adopted at the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Deputy Minister Tumanyants presented the institutional anti-corruption reforms in Armenia and the progress made as a result of implementation of those reforms; she particularly informed that the Anti-Corruption Committee was established in 2021 and presented the functions of the Committee.

 

The establishment of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption as a preventative body, the functions thereof, as well as the positive outcomes of the activities of the Commission were also highlighted.

In the context of the institutional anti-corruption reforms, Deputy Minister Tumanyants noted that the launch of the anti-corruption courts started in October 2021 and will be fully launched with courts of 3 instances at the end of 2022. It was also mentioned that the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin has been established at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, and the positive outcomes of the activities of the Department were presented.

Importance was also attached to the conduct of public awareness-raising campaigns about the fight against corruption and, in this context, the actions pre-determined under the Action Plan for Anti-Corruption Communication were presented.

At the end of her speech, Deputy Minister Tumanyants once again emphasised that the fight against corruption is considered as one of the major priorities of Armenia and that an important reforms agenda is being implemented in this field.
