Issue of the need for constitutional reforms discussed with management staff of Chamber of Advocates

On 1 September, Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan visited the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia and met Chairperson of the Chamber Ara Zohrabyan, members of the Board and other representatives of the Chamber.

The focus of the discussion was on the issue of the need for constitutional reforms in two main directions — the change of the form of management, as well as the appropriateness and possibility of merging the courts of high instances through the establishment of a supreme court.

Chairperson of the Chamber Ara Zohrabyan and the attendees expressed their initial position on the suggested topics and the issues related to them, and for the purpose of providing the opinion of the Chamber on the basis of in-depth study, proposed to establish a working group comprising advocates that will gather opinions of the community of advocates on the issue, and will present the joint position of the Chamber to the Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, a number of issues for increasing effectiveness of the co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and the Chamber of Advocates were also discussed.

The Minister of Justice and the Chairperson of the Chamber expressed willingness to hold more meetings in this format and make the co-operation closer.
