Srbuhi Galyan participates in working discussion on draft Criminal Code

Today, a two-day working discussion on the new draft Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia was launched with the participation of Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan and the representatives of interested bodies.

The discussion was organised through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, within the scope of “Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of European standards in Armenia’’ Project, funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe under the Partnership for Good Governance.

Judges, representatives of the Office of Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia, the State Revenue Committee, the Police, the Chamber of Advocates, as well as other interested bodies participated in the discussion.

Head of the Working Group developing the Code Ara Gabuzyan presented to the participants the items on the agenda, after which he discussed the provisions relating to the punishment system, security measures, stages of crime and complicity.

The second day of discussion will be devoted to the issues concerning the concept of ''illegal taking'' and some types of release from punishment.

The goal of “Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of European standards in Armenia’’ Project is to contribute to increase in the level of public awareness on European standards.
