On 17 January 2019, the European Court of Human Rights decided to grant the motion of Samvel Mayrapetyan of 2 January 2019 to apply an interim measure, pursuant to Rule 39 of the Rules of the Court. By this decision, the Court requires that the Government of the Republic of Armenia immediately ensure the provision of medical care adequate to his current health condition and in accordance with doctors' instructions and, in case of need — also ensure the process of transluminal drainage.

The Government of the Republic of Armenia shall, within a short period, but no later than within fifteen days, provide the Court with information on the necessary measures taken for the purpose of ensuring application of the interim measure. Currently, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to the European Court of Human Rights, in co-operation with the competent authorities, is taking the necessary actions to ensure fulfilment of the requirements of the decision under consideration.
