Session of Co-ordinating Council for 2017-2019 Action Plan of the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights was held

A session of the Co-ordinating Council for the 2017-2019 Action Plan arising from the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights was held today under the chairmanship of Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Davit Harutyunyan.

During the session, Deputy Minister of Justice Vigen Kocharyan introduced the past and current activities of the Ministry of Justice prescribed by the 2017-2019 Action Plan of the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights. Accordingly, the activities for introduction of a system of exchange of information with regard to birth registration with the bodies of the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency have been completed. The relevant draft decision of the Government envisages the introduction of the possibility of a video call for persons deprived of liberty in order to exercise their right to communicate with the external world.

During the session, Deputy Minister Vigen Kocharyan also introduced a number of activities that are in the stage of fulfilment.

Afterwards, according to the agenda of the session, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Nature Protection, Healthcare, Labour and Social Affairs, Education and Science, Diaspora and Culture of the Republic of Armenia and of the Police adjunct to the Government of the Republic of Armenia also introduced to Davit Harutyunyan the process of fulfilment of the obligations assumed by their respective government agencies under the 2017-2019 Action Plan of the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights.

Summing up, Minister Harutyunyan urged the members of the Council to discuss with the members of the public councils operating within the relevant government agencies the process and results of the activities envisaged by the Action Plan according to sectors, the brief introduction of which is planned to be organised by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia in December.
