Working discussion on draft of new Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia held

Today, Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan attended a working discussion on the draft of the new Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia held with the participation of representatives of interested bodies.

The discussion was organised through the combined efforts of the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, within the scope of the "Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonisation of application of European standards in Armenia" Project.

Greeting the participants of the discussion, Deputy Minister Galyan expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan for the support that it has provided to the development of the Criminal Procedure Code for many years.

Touching upon the draft Code, Srbuhi Galyan stated that it is currently in the stage of summarisation of the opinions regarding the Draft placed into circulation and attached importance to the organising of such working discussions.

The Deputy Minister also emphasised that the draft Code is in a decisive stage, as the result of the decade-long work is about to be submitted to the National Assembly and enter into legal force.

Afterwards, Head of the Working Group developing the Code Hrayr Ghukasyan presented to the participants the issues on the agenda for discussion of the Draft, touched upon the functions, powers and relations of public participants in proceedings, the initiation of criminal proceedings and public prosecutions and criminal and secret investigative actions. This was followed by a question-and-answer session.
