Deputy Ministers of Justice receive the delegation of the Expert Group of the Venice Commission

On 17 September 2019, First Deputy Minister of Justice Rafik Grigoryan, Deputy Ministers Kristinne Grigoryan and Anna Vardapetyan received the delegation of experts of the European Commission for Democracy through Law of the Council of Europe (the Venice Commission).

 In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, the objective of the visit and the meetings held during it is to hold professional discussions for preparing the opinion of the Commission on the package of amendments to the Judicial Code and related legislation.

First Deputy Minister of Justice Rafik Grigoryan thanked the experts for responding to the application of the Ministry and organising preparatory works of the Opinion. In the welcoming speech, Deputy Minister Kristinne Grigoryan emphasised the high-level
co-operation of the Government with the Venice Commision and other bodies of the Council of Europe, making reference to the general values the Council of Europe is based on.

During the meeting, the Parties discussed the draft law "On making amendments and supplements to the Constitutional Law ’Judicial Code’".

In particular, Deputy Minister Rafik Grigoryan and Deputy Minister Anna Vardapetyan, in response to the questions of the members of the Expert Group of the Commission, presented the procedures for submitting by judges declarations on property and income, the peculiarities of subjecting a judge to disciplinary liability, the legal procedures to be carried out by the Supreme Judicial Council and the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, as well as other professional matters relating to different regulations of the draft packages.
