On 6 May, Deputy Minister of Justice Tigran Khachikyan received members of the group having participated in Criminal Justice Collaboration and Partnership Program of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the possibilities for introducing and developing alternative measures of restraint, as well as a number of issues related to the format for future co-operation.
Deputy Minister Khachikyan informed the colleagues that finalisation of the draft of amendments to the Law on Probation is planned in the nearest future, within the scope of which he expressed his willingness to discuss recommendations submitted by the group. At the same time, Tigran Khachikyan attached importance to the fact that the solutions related to alternative measures of restraint are complex and are reflected in both the penitentiary sector and the field of criminal procedure.
Summing up the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on conducting the next working discussion with a more expanded composition, during which they will also touch upon the issue of differentiating between the solutions with financial implications and those without financial implications within the context of the recommendation of the working group.
