Deputy Ministers receive the members of the group having familiarised with the American experience in application of alternative measures of restraint

Today, Deputy Ministers of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan and Artak Asatryan received the members of the group having participated in Criminal Justice Collaboration and Partnership Program of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative.

The members of the group consisting of representatives from the Criminal Court of Appeal of the Republic of Armenia, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia, the Public Defender's Office and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia presented to the Deputy Ministers the experience existing in the United States in the field of application of alternative measures of restraint.

During the meeting, welcoming the guests, Deputy Minister Artak Asatryan noted that they are ready to co-operate and serve the practical knowledge gained by the members of the group within the scope of the exchange programme for the benefit of better improvement of the mechanisms of application of alternative measures of restraint in Armenia.

Within the context of non-custodial measures of restraint, Deputy Minister Krmoyan presented to the members of the group the activities being implemented in the direction of introducing Electronic Service of Probation, as a result of which the information regarding the probation beneficiaries available in other electronic platforms will be united.

The members of the group presented the mechanisms for the activities of the U.S. Pretrial Service and the available set of tools. The possibilities of introducing more effective and manageable "recognisance not to leave" measure of restraint being applied in Armenia, as well as of introducing the institution of house arrest and a number of other issues were touched upon as well.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on arranging a new meeting regarding the more practical application of recommendations to be made as a result of examining the conceptual provisions presented by the members of the group.
