Delegation of Ministry of Justice examined peculiarities of working with minor prisoners in Germany

On 10-14 December, the delegation of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia paid a study visit to Germany. Among the members of the delegation were Head of the State Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Navasardyan, Director of the “Centre for Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes” SNCO Ashot Hayrapetyan and employee of the Department for Drafting Anti-Corruption and Penitentiary Policies of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan.

The visit was paid within the scope of the project “Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument” of the European Commission.

During the visit, the members of the delegation had a number of meetings with high-ranking officials, particularly Deputy Minister of Justice of the Province of Saxony in Germany Van der Beck, Head of the Department Coordinating the Penitentiary Sector Sebastian Schulenberg and the Head of the Probation Service and discussed issues concerning exchange of experience.

The members of the delegation got acquainted with the German experience in preparation of and training for penitentiary and probation officers, as well as the peculiarities of working with minor prisoners, including a number of issues related to the education of minor convicts. Within the scope of the visit, visits to penitentiary institutions were also organised to get acquainted with the custody conditions of prisoners, individual planning of serving the punishment, as well as the mechanisms for assessment of the educational needs of convicts.

During the visit, a meeting took place with the Head of the Probation Service as well.
