EU representatives reaffirm willingness to support development of the Programme for Judicial and Legal Reforms in the Republic of Armenia

On 27 November, the delegation led by Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan participated in the subsequent meeting of the Eastern Partnership Panel on Rule of Law in Brussels. Among the members of the delegation were Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Davit Melkonyan and Head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Grigoryan. Justice reforms in Eastern Partnership countries and the perspectives of support of the EU to those reforms were discussed within the scope of the Panel.

During the meeting, the delegation of the Republic of Armenia presented the Programmes for Judicial and Legal Reforms in the Republic of Armenia and particularly the key issues in the prosecution sector and the actions taken. In particular, the issues relating to the place and role of prosecution in the system of state bodies, the guarantees for independence and accountability of prosecution and the appointment and transparency of promotion of prosecutors were discussed. During the meeting, the problems relating to independence, quality and efficiency of justice were also touched upon.

The EU representatives reaffirmed their willingness to support the development of the Programme for Judicial and Legal Reforms in the Republic of Armenia and the efficient implementation of the Programme.
