Minister of Justice receives OSCE/ODIHR representative

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Davit Harutyunyan received Chief of the Rule of Law Unit at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Ghenadie Barba.

Minister Harutyunyan greeted the OSCE/ODIHR representative, highly appreciated the co-operation between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and the international structure and expressed willingness to implement programmes that will be more effective and ensure a more visible outcome for the society.

Chief of the Rule of Law Unit Ghenadie Barba expressed gratitude to the Minister for the reception and emphasised that the judicial-legal reforms being carried out by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia are a necessity.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues on raising the level of effectiveness of criminal justice, touched upon the issue of introducing an effective tool for assessing the lawfulness of applying detention as a measure of restraint, as well as the issue of introducing the system of alternative sentences and the capacity building of the State Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
