Minister highly appreciates active involvement of civil society in preventing corruption

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisya participated in the opening “Government-Civil Society Anti-corruption Conference”.

 The Minister welcomed holding of discussions in such a format and emphasised that civil society’s participation in any arena is one of the most important pledges of success. Arpine Hovhannisyan highly appreciated the interest, active engagement and strong co-operation of CSO in the prevention of corruption and in that context stressed the importance of developing “Government-Civil Society Co-operation Platform”.

Citing the speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, which he delivered on the eve, the Minister noted that she has given a clear-cut instruction to activate the fight against corruption, introduce the institute of resolving conflict of interests, optimize the state system and improve the effectiveness of the activities thereof.

During the Conference, the attendees touched upon the importance of the institute of declaration in the fight against corruption, to the possibilities of co-operation with the civil society organisations, as well as to the challenges of addressing corruption in the field of business, etc.

 The discussion was also attended by Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Peter Svitalski, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Argo Avakov, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan, President of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, Coordinator of the Secretariat of the SCO Anti-Corruption Coalition Karen Zadoyan, Head of the Freedom of Information Center Liana Doydoyan and others.
