Draft law of the Republic of Armenia “On making amendments and supplements to the Civil Code of the Republic of Armenia” was discussed

On 28 April draft law of the Republic of Armenia “On making amendments and supplements to the Civil Code of the Republic of Armenia” was discussed at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

The discussion was organised with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit] (GIZ). First Deputy Minister of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Mkrtchyan, project manager of GIZ Legal approximation towards European standards in the South Caucasus Thomas Meyer, professor, GIZ expert Rolf Knieper, lecturer at the Chair of Civil Law of Yerevan State University Liparit Melikjanyan, other representatives of the Ministry of Justice attended the meeting.

Arsen Mkrtchyan, highly appreciating the contribution of the GIZ in the sector of legislative reforms of the Republic of Armenia, expressed confidence that the co-operation in that direction will be of continuous nature. According to the First Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia is interested in having — through the engagement of GIZ experts — a well functioning Code with effective legal regulations.

Thomas Meyer, expressing his gratitude for the effective co-operation, noted that they are ready to continue providing support aimed at the reforms of the Civil Code.

During the discussion, German partners introduced the German experience related to the improvement of the sector, based on which a range of corrections and amendments were made to draft provisions. Articles related to the institute of limited use of another person's property (servitude) have been supplemented, concepts of voluntary and involuntary servitude over property, legal regulations related thereto have been clarified.
