Minister of Justice receives delegation led by EU representative Mathieu Bousquet

  Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan today received the delegation led by Mathieu Bousquet, Head of the Unit for Neighbourhood East, Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

The Minister emphasised the importance of discussing the agenda of the meeting and highly appreciated EU support, especially to the programmes carried out in the justice sector.

  Arpine Hovhannisyan assured that the constitutional reforms will lead to qualitatively new steps in the sector with the Ministry of Justice as the agency in charge of legal policies and as the main role-player.

Mathieu Bousquet expressed his gratitude for the reception and addressed the results of programmes funded by the EU.

  During the meeting, the Minister presented the achievements and plans in the justice sector, emphasising the opening of "Armavir" penitentiary institution, the implementation of activities aimed at introducing the Probation Service, as well as the efforts to ensure continuity of the programmes aimed at independence, accountability, and transparency of the justice system. 

 Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan noted that there is great potential for further development and enhancement of the justice system and assured that the support of the international partners will help the Ministry do its best to increase public confidence in the system.
